Sunrise at Borobudur
it’s a busy weekend for me. so many last minute travel preparations to be done. i hope all goes well this time. rain, or shine. sleet or snow. indonesia here i go!
three words that describe me- food, travel and photography. that’s what i always say to people when they ask.
i’ve not been any of the three mentioned words above. what am i then?
being in a slump is dysfunctionally sad that i should snap out of it. i’m too tired to start so i’ll just close my computer, hop on to my bed, shut my eyes and sleep my miseries away. hopefully if i wake up tomorrow, i’d be better.

when i decided to be a mac convert in 2005, i told myself that i’d do anything to keep my macbook clean and in pristine condition at all times. i’ve read from various blogs of mac owners that the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is an essential cleaning tool in keeping the plastics clean. some suggested cleaning solutions to remove tough stains but most use only water (a little of it). since i vowed that i’d clean fiona at least once a week, i just did that and got myself a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, a flannel cloth, the 3M Scotch-Brite high performance cloth (or a microfibre cloth) for the LCD, a small rubber eraser and a fine bristled paint brush.
steps:
1. with the macbook completely turned off, remove the battery and any other devices attached to it.
2. with a damp (not wet) flannel cloth or Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, do small circular motions on the top plastics and palmrests and dry immediately with another piece of flannel. repeat the process.
3. for the keyboard keys and the trackpad and the button, initially use the damp flannel to wipe off dirt. for tough dirt, use a rubber eraser and brush it off.
4. for the lcd, lightly wipe the surface using the 3M Scoth-Brite high performance cloth in small circular motions.
5. for the outer casing (top and under), wipe the surface with the damp flannel cloth or Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and dry immediately with a flannel cloth.
6. for small hard to reach areas such as in between keys and connection ports on the sides of the macbook, use cotton buds to remove dirt.
cleaning shouldn’t be much of a chore and would just take a few minutes every week if done on a regular basis. in that way, the dirt and stain haven’t settled and removing it should be easy. i have yet to know how my cleaning regimen would change once i upgrade to a macbook pro. *wink*
**fiona apple is my very first apple computer and she turns five this july.

Should I stay or should I go now?
no one openly talks about it nor is anyone confirming or denying the fact that we are losing really good and talented people to join other companies here and abroad. as the global economy starts to pick up from the slump, demand for skilled professionals have gone up as business starts to boom again. i can feel that there’s a great cause for concern for the large number of people jumping ship as they get lured with huge basic salaries and travel opportunities. as for management, there have been actions done to control the issue however it seems that it’s not enough to keep them from leaving. i hope this doesn’t go out of hand.
as for me, is it time? i don’t think so. i’m tired, weary and a bit disgruntled but i’m still within limits of not thinking or not even considering the thought. the reasons of staying still outweigh the reasons for leaving. however, i am anxious to know what they’re doing to remedy this situation before it gets out of hand.
i guess i’ll just have to sit still and see how things unravel in the coming days weeks months.

happy birthday to me
happy birthday to me
happy birthday, happy birthday
happy birthday to me.

our low-cost office looks like an airconditioned IT sweatshop. workstations are cramped where we have little to no privacy. because of this, you hear the constant clicking of the mouse, the sound that the keyboard keys make and the occasional whispering of the people working there. we’ve grown accustomed to the deplorable working conditions in the office. change is inevitable during these hard times. all that’s expected of us is to adapt and be flexible to embrace these changes to cut down on overhead cost to be more “competitive”.
but this is not what i’m blogging about. i just heard this from the office grapevine. it’s been going on for weeks now, months even. by the entrance door, the 2 phone booth areas are constantly occupied. there’s nothing unusual about this but what’s surprising is that a lot of people taking in calls from their mobiles are conversing in english. i hear some speak very well and most i hear struggling to compose what they want to say. i myself can’t make sense of what they want to tell the party at the other end of the line. my ears were bleeding to hear most of them try to explain technical terms and still not make sense.
and so there i was eavesdropping on a warm sunny afternoon. are they being interviewed by recruiters from other countries? people are being pirated right under my nose. i’d like to try it too and see how it’s like. it has been a long while since i’ve tried to look at what’s out there.
